Preschool Program Update

This month we did some interior decorating and rearranged our rooms. The children were excited to come in the next morning and see everything in a different place. The teachers were also happy to see the children enjoying the new areas. One of the areas that they really enjoyed was the recycled area. We used yogurt containers, egg cartons, yop bottles and pop bottles to help enhance our kitchen play.
The children ended up taking all the yogurt containers into the block area and they built towers as high as they could while standing on their tip toes. When they couldn’t reach the top they used a stepping stool to build their towers even higher. The towers would get higher and higher and the children would yell and cheer as they came tumbling down to the ground.
Now that there is finally snow on the ground, we can all get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy doing holiday crafts and spending time outside!

School Age Program Update

November was a fun month with two busy inservice days!  The first inservice was our Camping Day.  We set up camp at the Rec Centre in town.  We had a tent, a BBQ and fun camping/nature themed games.  The day ended with a scavenger hunt around town.  Everyone had  a blast that day, even though there was a cold North wind.

The second inservice day was a Carnival Day.  We had a photo booth, carnival games, and face painting.  The older children took charge and ran the show!  Maya won the guessing game called, "How Many Candies in the Jar?"

The Kindergarten group took advantage of our mild November weather and spent a great deal of time going on outdoor adventures!  We have gone for walks around town, learning about road safety and exploring the interesting features of the buildings we have in town.  The children are excited that the snow has arrived and we have spent lots of time making snowmen, learning about snowflakes, and doing winter-themed activities indoors.

We can't wait for the excitement that comes with December's Holiday Festivities!

Infant Program Update

It was a lovely treat to start out November with green grass and warm weather.  The children in the Infant Program enjoyed playing outside in the many, many leaves that had fallen, and going for numerous walks through our neighbourhood.

We also had lots of fun doing activities and crafts within the centre, including water play, trying to catch as many bubbles as possible, sticker fun, making poppies for Remembrance Day, and singing many songs.  Our favourite songs are, "If You're Happy and You Know it," and,  "The Wheels on the Bus."  We also did some painting and learned about making and mixing colours.

In November we welcomed our new friend, Emma, and said, "Good-Bye" to our good friend, Austin, who graduated to Preschool.

As November ended, the children were happy to see some snow and make a snowman.  We all look forward to what December brings and all the adventures we will have.

School Age/Kindergarten Update

The School Age children are happy to be back "home" at J.A. Cuddy Child Care Centre.  We have had a very busy month.  On our inservice day in October, we turned the room into our own restaurant, where the children got the opportunity to cut up potatoes, carrots, seasoned a roast beef, and baked cupcakes.  When everything was all cooked and ready to go, some of our School Agers became waitresses and served the gourmet meal to their friends.

Since the weather has been so beautiful, we have been spending lots of time outside.

Our Kindergarten program has been busy as well.  They have been interested in a variety of science experiments and lots of outdoor play.  They even went around town and cleaned up the garbage!  Great work Kinders!

Preschool Program Update

Preschool has been very busy since we've been back to the centre.  We are very excited to welcome Finn, Maddy, Kyra, Roghan, and Dylan to Younger Floor and Joseph to Older Floor.

With Halloween being the big excitement in October, the staff implemented many different activities surrounding this theme.  The children made lots of art and room decorations, pinned and threw spiders onto home-made webs throughout the room, and had many Halloween-themed dance parties.

The children got quite messy outdoors, but had an absolute blast while doing it.  They splashed in puddles and worked very hard at gathering leaves into a pile to jump in.  The children were eager to help clean up the backyard area, and we learned that they are very good at raking.  If you still have yard work to do, get your children to help out!

The Younger Floor preschool group changed their Daily Living Area into a car shop where the children enjoy driving/parking their cars, repairing their cars with tools, and filling up their cars with gas.  They also went on long walks and explored the different colours, shapes, and sizes of all the leaves falling to the ground.

The Older Floor preschool group created an entire Halloween-themed Daily Living Area.  They also did lots of interesting activities in October.  They did a science experiment with Skittles and watched the rainbow of colours swirl together like magic.  They put green spaghetti noodles in the sensory table, along with a do-it-yourself pumpkin carving activity.  They also went on walks and collected colourful leaves to decorate their fall Birthday Board.

Don't forget to check the chart in the front foyer of all the wonderful activities the preschool staff do each week!

Infant Room Update

Well it is nice to be back in our own space.  We are so thankful that the Domain Community Hall provided a beautiful space for us back in September/October.

Thank you to everyone for all of your wonderful donations and for all the help we recieved while we were in Domain.  The outpouring of support was wonderful to see and we cannot be more thankful for all the things you have done for us.

We said good-bye to Dylan, Stella, Roghan, Finn, and Kyra this fall.  Congratulations on moving to Preschool!  We will miss you!

We welcomed Blake, Lexi, Tripp, Emilia, and Emma into our program.  We are so happy to see all the new and smiling faces.

When we were in Domain, the infants enjoyed playing in the trees.  We pretended the fallen trees were horses and we went for countless horse rides.  We pulled off some of the bark and felt the tree with our fingers.  We also found caterpillars and touched their soft fur.  We turned them upside down to find their feet, and wow..there were lots of them!

We also enjoyed playing in the fort the School-Agers made in the forest at the back of the Domain School grounds.  We really miss the open-ended opportunities the outdoor space provided in Domain.

Once we moved back in to J.A. Cuddy Child Care Centre, we had the opportunity to engage in messy play once again.  The children used their fine motor skills to squish and manipulate some home-made playdough.  We also made bats, pumpkins, and ghosts for Halloween.  We had a great time dressing up for Halloween and joining the Preschoolers in a Monster Mash Dance Party.

The children have shown a great interest in balls, so we have be practicing how to roll a ball between or legs.  The children also love to chase the balls when the teachers throw them.

We are looking forward to the beautiful weather forecasted for the next little while.  Stay tuned for next month's update!
